Yes, I had done the exact same thing myself in order to be able to run other software that at the time was not compatible with Yosemite. Steam support was unhelpful, but after a long time I figured it out myself, and solved the issue by reverting SystemVersion.plist to the lastest OS X version. Forgot to come back and update this topic.
